GONE SO LONG

It’s only August for another hour

The fading of the summer flower

Another one of those days that I can’t say

I’m doing everything in my power

I’m livin’ in a faraway town

Still pickin’ and a-kickin’ around

I send gifts that sometimes fit

I see you when the fares go down

I just couldn’t help myself

From wanting to be somewhere else

Thought I would only be a minute, but I was wrong

I didn’t mean to be gone so long

I’ve been looking for you in the mirror

And thinkin’ ‘bout how I got here

I know it seems hard to believe

I have loved you every missing year

So when those autumn breezes blow

Don’t let ‘em turn your heart to stone

Wait for me, I’ll always be

Somebody tryin’ to get back home

I just couldn’t help myself

From wanting to be somewhere else

Thought I would only be a minute, but I was wrong

I didn’t mean to be gone so long

I just couldn’t help myself

From wanting to be somewhere else

Thought I would only be a minute, but I was wrong

So wrong

I didn’t mean to be gone so long
